How to Choose the Most Energy Efficient Pet Door at the October Maricopa Home & Landscape Show!

How to Choose the Most Energy Efficient Pet Door
By Hale Pet Door
Let’s face it –putting a hole in your wall or door isn’t the best way to keep outside air out and inside air in. So when you want your pets to have free access to the yard, it’s important to find the most energy efficient cat or dog door.
Pet doors with two heavy, flexible vinyl flaps create an air barrier that’s similar to that of double pane glass. The flaps must seal securely, so high quality magnets that attach to stainless steel strikes create a seal that is strong enough to keep air and dust out while allowing your pet to push through the door at will. Weather-stripping should be half inch heavy pile attached to the pet door frame.
Wall pet doors are the most energy efficient because of the larger air space between the two flaps. So, like most other aspects of windows and doors for your home, investing in a high quality pet door will end up saving you money in the long run while keeping you and your pets comfortable right away.

Go Green and Save Some Green with Kinetico at the Maricopa County Home Show!

Go Green and Save Some Green with Kinetico!
By Martin Chan

Arizona is home to the Saguaro cactus, dramatic sunsets, the Grand Canyon and hard water.  Many Arizona homeowners understand that a water treatment system is a must to eliminate high chlorine levels and hard water.  Such water is damaging to appliances, plumbing, and fixtures and will also wreak havoc on dishes, glasses and laundry.  This same water will also drastically dry the skin and hair.  But what you might not realize is that proper water treatment not only protects you from these problems, but also conserves valuable resources.

Conserving energy is important. With energy costs on the rise, consumers are searching for energy saving technology and earth friendly practices.  Kinetico has it!  A Kinetico system is powered by water pressure and does not require electricity or gas.  It also features on-demand regeneration (cleaning cycle), which not only saves water, but energy as well because it takes energy to deliver the water we all use everyday.

Household appliances also last longer and work more efficiently. In most homes, the hot water heater is the second highest electrical consumer in the household.  Hard water contains calcium and magnesium which binds to the heating element causing the unit to use 30% more electricity to heat the water.

With a Kinetico water system, less soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and dish soap are required, saving money and decreasing the demand for these products (reducing the energy and pollution that goes into making and transporting them). In addition, soaps high in phosphates, which Arizona homeowners use to counteract the effects of hard water, are no longer necessary. Low-phosphate soap can be used, therefore reducing ground water pollution.

The bottom line is hard to ignore: With the right home water treatment, you can conserve valuable resources, help protect the environment, and save money in the process. Green water never sounded so tasty!

Visit Kinetico Water at the Maricopa County Home Show this weekend!  Booth 969 in the Ag Building and 203 in the Exhibit Building!

The Benefits of Dance
FUN: Although your commitment to learn to dance will demand concentration, dedication and time, you will be constantly surrounded by artistic, cheerful people who will make your instruction at Fred Astaire Dance Studios a most pleasurable and rewarding experience.
FRIENDSHIPS: Beyond instruction, dance opens a wide spectrum of social settings in which friendships are forged and dreams come true. Scheduled Fred Astaire Dance Studio practice dance parties, local, regional and national competitions and fun nights out on the town provide dancers with a full social calendar.
CONFIDENCE: Dancers possess an aura of self-confidence and an ability to enjoy themselves more in public settings. Their entire mental outlook takes on a renewed sense of creativity, motivation and energy.
CREATIVITY: Dance provides an emotional outlet in which a person can truly reflect his or her feelings through body movement. The ability to dance is present in everyone, it only needs to be cultivated through sound instruction methods. Then you're on your own, expressing yourself with passion and flair.
HEALTH: Dancing helps the body's circulatory system as it makes your heart pump blood faster. Dancing encourages weight control and overall fitness through calorie burn off. The constant movement and muscle extension during dance sessions also provides a pleasing, mild exercise most people long for but rarely achieve, especially in such pleasant circumstances.

Citizen Corps Council Raffle for Emergency Preparedness Programs at the October Maricopa County Home & Landscape Show!

Citizen Corps Council to Sponsor Raffle to Raise Money for Emergency Preparedness Programs Sign up at the Neighborhood Safety Resource Center Booth
Who are the Citizens Corps?
Citizen Corps came out of FEMA after September 11, 2001.  It is a grassroots movement wherein community leaders and government come together to involve citizens in emergency preparedness and resilience.
This combination of different entities was created to help coordinate volunteer activities, making our communities better prepared to respond to emergencies and therefore making our communities safer from the threats of terrorism and disasters of all kinds.
Citizen Corps Councils are comprised of Fire Corps, USA on Watch, VIPS (volunteers in Police Service), Medical Reserve Corps and C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) which is very active in the Phoenix Metropolitan area.  In Maricopa County we include voter members from industry, the public sector, faith groups and volunteer organizations.
Let’s take C.E.R.T. as an example.  All the different cities in Maricopa County that have a Citizen Corps team which includes C.E.R.T. come together a few times each year to practice our skills.  The NE valley, the SE valley, the Central Valley, the West Valley all take turns planning events wherein we can practice our skills. This covers sheltering, volunteer reception centers, communications, medical facilities, logistics and we practice, practice, practice.  In the event of a disaster, we will be there for you assisting the first responders and Incident Command with whatever is needed.
The Arizona Central Region Citizen Corps Council (ACRCCC), which includes all of Maricopa County, meets once monthly to share information as to what is happening in the State, the County and what each individual City member is doing which can include events that are planned, classes that are being taught and so on.
Items raffled include:
-A dog bed filled with dog stuff such as auto dog watering bowl and other assorted goodies and an hour of computer trouble shooting which is a $75 value
-A cat bed filled with cat stuff such as auto cat watering bowl and other assorted goodies and an hour of computer trouble shooting which is a $75 value
The raffle is to raise money for the ACRCCC (Arizona Central Region Citizen Corps Council).  The Citizen Corps is comprised of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), COPs (Volunteers in Police Service), Medical Reserve Corps, Fire Corps and US Neighborhoods on Watch. The money will be used to purchase equipment, teach classes on emergency preparedness and awareness, etc. and is accessible to any of the member cities in Maricopa County that are members of the Central Region Citizen Corps Council.  Because they are a 501(c)3, the table, chair and raffle tickets are purchased with donations from non government sources.  The winner does not have to be present to win.

For more information about C.E.R.T. please see http://www.citizencorps.gov.

Hottest Product of Expo 2010 Debuts in AZ at October Home Show

Hottest Product of Expo 2010
Debuts in AZ at October Home Show

Once again, Door & Access Systems conducted a nationwide poll immediately after Expo 2010 to determine the dealers’ choices for “the hottest new products at Expo 2010.”  This year, none of the top three products
were carriage house doors, though many attractive doors were displayed. The hottest new products did not come from any of the industry’s major manufacturers, though they all featured excellent booths and products.  None of the top three products was invented by a professional engineer with a college degree. Actually, none of the inventors hold a college degree. Each of the products is the brainchild of good old American ingenuity, the product of a motivated tinkerer seeking a solution to an industry problem or the fulfillment of a consumer need.

Hot Product #1:
The Breezy Living  Screen Garage Door
Far and away, the top vote-getter in the 2010 Hottest New Products Survey was the Breezy Living Screen Garage Door at Arrow-Tru-Line’s exhibit. Ken Wise of Arrow Tru-Line says the exhibit was constantly surrounded by a crowd at Expo and generated a lot of inquiries. The product features a unique sliding pass door that lets people enter or leave the garage without opening the entire door. Wise says the door avoids the high cost of electric retractable doors and eliminates the problems of the floor track on sliding doors. He adds that the Breezy Living product is affordable, easy to install, and simple to use. Plus, the door should be acceptable to many HOAs (Home Owner Associations). Expected options include different types of screening, frame colors, and imaging on screens.   Visit Breezy Living in booth # 882, 883. 898, 899 at the October Marciopa County Home Show.

Show Hours:
Friday 10am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 7pm, Sunday 10am to 5pm
